Botswana is a semi-arid country, dues to a short rain season. But the country has a subtropical climate because of a relatively high altitude. The dry season lasts from April to October in the south and to November in the north. The whole country is windy and dusty during the dry season. Dry winter months of May to October are considered the best for wildlife viewing.
Wildlife never wanders too far from water sources, so sightings are more predictable than in the wetter summer season (May to September). In summer (October to April), wildlife is harder to spot and rains can render sandy roads impassable. This is also the time of the highest humidity and the most stifling heat.

Setting aside a small amount for the porters, guides and drivers is wise. Restaurants and cafes in urban areas may expect a tip of around 10% of the bill.
