The best and the most famous Park to see wildlife here is the Chitwan National Park that offers elephant rides, jungle canoeing, nature walks, and birding, tiger and rhino sightings. Bardiya and Sagarmatha are also equally abundant in wildlife and are worth a visit for all wildlifers!

Chitwan National Park is a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site which was designated as a national Park in 1973. The park is world renowned for Rhino sightings in great numbers. With mixed vegetation of Savannah, Riverine and Sal forest, Chitwan is Nepal’s most visited National Park and a haven for wild life aficionados. Four of the Big Five can be seen (Rhinos, Tigers, Leopards and Asiatic Elephants) along with a rich population of 4 types of deer, wild boars, marsh muggars and ghariyals. Due to its closeness to Himalayan circuit the park also shelters winter and summer migrants along with its more than 500 native bird species. Chitwan is a bird watcher’s paradise - indigenous and migrant species like Great Hornbill, Ruddy Shelduck, Pied Kingfisher and Red Headed Trogon can also be found. Strict conservation policies and military patrolling have decimated poaching incidents and the park has been showing a growth in the Rhino Population.
Chitwan is a hindi word formed by two independent words Chit and Van translating to “heart of the jungle”. The shape of the park is largely dictated by the disposition of the three rivers which form much of the boundaries- the Narayani and Rapti in the north, and the Reu flowing through the National Park. The topography and variety of habitats- savannahs, riverine from valleys, sal of the hills and chir pine along the ridges contribute to the forest’s beauty and complexity. The Elephant grass that grows up to 22 ft lays a different game for summer, spring and winters. The majesty of Chitwan has the powers to charm, beguile, elate and dwarf men with its dense vegetation and intensity.
ACCESS :Chartered helicopter to the Lodge from any of the tourist stops can be arranged. It takes 37minutes, 17 minutes and 22 minutes from Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lumbini respectively to reach Barahi Jungle Lodge.

WILDLIFE:More than 700 species of wild found in this exotic park of just over 900 sq km. 17 species of snakes including the King Cobra and rock python, gharials, monitor lizards, starred tortoise,rhinos, Gaurs, golden jackals, fishing cats, jungle cats, leopard cats, large and small Indian civets, Asian palm civets, crab-eating mongooses and yellow-throated martens, leopards including clouded leopard and of course the Bengal Tiger are some animals found in the park. Chitwan is also home to more than 600 species of birds including the endangered Bengal florican, the vulnerable lesser adjutant,grey-crowned prinia, swamp francolin and several species of grass warblers.

This park is probably the most virgin and wild in Nepal. It is also the largest park in the Terai. Earlier part hunting ground, it was declared a National Park in the year 1988 as Royal Bardia National Park. Three fourth of the park is covered by Sal Forests and the rest by Rivers and some grasslands. These protect over 640 wildlife species which includes 23 Reptile and Amphibian species, a few gharial, 125 fish species, 53 Mammals and over 407 bird species.

The Park and the lodge can be accessed by a Charter from Kathmandu.
The closest airport Nepalgunj also has daily flights from Kathmandu (1 hour). It is a two hour drive from here.

WILDLIFE:Rhinoceros, wild elephant, Bengal tiger, swamp deer, and Gangetic dolphin are amongst the 53 mammals found in the area. Amongst the 407 bird species are the Bengal florican, white-rumped vulture, peafowl, and bar-headed geese, Lesser florican, sarus crane, grey-crowned prinia, jungle prinia, pale-footed bush warbler, aberrant bush warbler, striated grassbird, golden-headed cisticola and chestnut-capped babbler.

Sagarmatha National Park, the world’s highest National Park is a beautifully landscaped mountaineous area with sharp peaks including the highest peak, the Mount Everest at 8848m. It is adorned by glaciers, the Dudh Ksi River Basin and Gokyo lakes. The park is located in the so called Khumbu region that also includes the Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone. What makes the area interesting is the presence of 5000 Sherpas in the region. This UNESCO’s World Heritage Site has around 118 species of birds and a number of rare and endemic animal species.
ACCESS :Only way to get to Sagarmatha is by Air. It is a 25-minute connecting flight to the regional airport in Lukla from Kathmandu. From here either we take a helicopter service or Trek 2 days to the Park.

WILDLIFE:Rare mammal species, including musk deer, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear and red panda. Himalayan thars, langur monkeys, martens, Himalayan wolves besides the Himalayan Bear are found in the park. 118 species of birds, include the Himalayan monal, blood pheasant, red-billed chough, and yellow-billed chough.
