What are the visa and passport requirements?

For Indian Citizens no visa is required as of now. Other Nationalities however need a visa to enter Nepal. Please note above information is subject to change. It is recommended to consult the embassy for the latest updates/changes in visa terms.

What is the time zone of Nepal?

The Time zone of Nepal is GMT +05.45. Nepal is 15 minutes ahead of India.

How is the climate? What is the best time to visit Nepal for wildlife?

Nepal has a dry season (from Mid September to May) and a wet season (from June to September). The dry season is the best time to visit Nepal for wildlife, with warm Sunny days and cold evenings that are great for bonfires!

What is the local currency? How can I pay my bills?

The Nepalese rupee is Nepal’s local currency, although US dollars and UK sterling are widely accepted, as are credit cards in Kathmandu.

How much should I Tip?

At lodges there is a common tipping box and tips can be given as per your discretion. These are divided equally amongst all the staff of the lodge, except the Naturalists, the guides and drivers who can be tipped seperately. In Nepal in general the bill is usually inclusive of Service Tax @10%, if not you could give 10% of the bill as tip.

Can I use my mobile in Nepal?

It is advisable to use a Nepalese Sim when in Nepal. NTC and Ncell are two known operators with good connectivity. However do keep in mind that mobiles may not work in the lodges due its remote locations. Chitwan has a good connectivity, however it is advisable to keep the phone on silent. One could however use the lodge’s landline for phone calls if required.

Is there internet connectivity?

The lodges are remote and hence wifi and internet will be limited and sporadic. However in other parts of Nepal 3G and wifi connectivity is not an issue.

What are plugs and power voltages used in Nepal?

The voltages and sockets are primarily the same as in India i.e 220-240Volts and Type D Electrical socket. Appliances belonging to other countries do need adaptors and converter kits.

What health and safety precautions should I take in Nepal?

No official immunizations are needed to enter the country, unless you have come from an area where yellow fever is present. However it is advisable to take your routine vaccinations of Diptheria and Tetanus, Hepatitis A and B, Flu, Japanese encaphilitis, Meningitis, Polio, Rabies, Tuberculosis and Typhoid.

What water and food precautions should I take in Nepal?

The lodges provide bottled water in the lodges. One should not drink any other water. Even ice should be avoided except in the lodges and upmarket tourist-oriented restaurants. While trekking, purify your own water if possible.
