What are the visa and passport requirements?

Visas are handled for the country at the Embassy in Delhi and the consulate in Mumbai. The Embassy has however implemented a new ONLINE visa processing system. Please apply through https://scedv.serpro.gov.br/frscedv/index.jsp and pay visa fees at the ABN Amro Bank at Brakhamba Road. Mumbai embassy however still requires a bank draft for visa fee in favor of "CONSULATE GENERAL OF BRAZIL" payable at Mumbai.

Following are the requirements for a Brazilian visa
• A valid passport valid for atleast six months with a blank page for the Brazilian visa stamp.
• Filled online visa form.
• Scanned documents as below
1. Photograph
2. Signature
3. Covering letter detailing the purpose of travel and tentative outcome of the trip.
4. Invitation letter if applicable.
5. Passport (bio-data page and the page containing parents name and address).
6. Any other document as deemed necessary by the applicant.

Any other documents required to enter Brazil?

All visitors traveling from India to Brazilian Amazon and Pantanal are required to possess a valid International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever. What is the climate like in Brazil?

Brazil being a Tropical Nation has warm temperatures in general. The Amazon and Pantanal weather is typically humid and wet, June and September being the driest months, May to September the coldest and December to February the warmest.

So what is the best time to visit Brazil?

Anytime is good to visit the Amazon and Pantanal. It is recommended however to avoid the months of December, January and February as heat and humidity is at its peak at this time.

What is the local currency?

The local currency is real(r$), pronounced like hay-ow. The plural is Rais(pronounced as hay-ice)The currency is as vibrant as their country. Each bank note reperesents a different colour and animal or bird. The green one-real note (hummingbird), a blue two (hawksbill turtle), a violet five (egret), a scarlet 10 (macaw), a yellow 20 (lion-faced monkey), a golden-brown 50 (jaguar) and a blue 100 (grouper fish).

What are the Bank opening hours?

Banks are open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except for holidays. ATMs are available in the big towns like Sao Paolo and even Manaus and are generally open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.

How much do I tip?

Tips are in general expected as 10% of the bill. However it is not a common practice amongst the Brazilians. Most restaurants include the tip in the bill as service charge, do check before tipping.

What safety issues should I consider while travelling in Brazil?

Brazil is safe in general safe to travel, however precautions must be taken at all times against pickpockets. The lodges however are absoloutely safe and the staff makes sure you have a safe and memorable holiday.

Can I use my mobile phone?

In case you have activated your mobile for roaming, the mobile will connect in even the remote areas of Amazon and Pantanal. Some remotest areas however may not have network coverage. Mobile internet can also be used if activated. Local calling cards or Sims are also available for calls outside and inside Brazil.

How good is the internet connectivity?

Internet access is limited in the remote areas of the forests, but may catch signal in a few places. The main cities however have good internet connections and a lot of internet cafes.

What plugs and power voltages are used in Brazil?

In Brazil the standard voltage is 127/220 V. The standard frequency is 60 Hz. The power sockets that are used are of type N. Hence we need to carry an adapter for our appliances.
