Visas can be obtained from the Consulates of Ecuador. US citizens can stay upto 90 days at Ecuador and the islands. However other nationalities require a valid visa for entry. You would need –
1. A passport valid for 6 months
2. Proof of travel that is a return ticket
3. Proof of economic means
4. 2 photographs
Since the islands are located on the Equator the climate is subtropical and is a year round destination. In general however the summer months are December to May and winters are from June to November. One should dress protecting oneself from the equatorial sun with hats and sunscreens and light clothing. Also include swim suits and a windbreaker or a sweater.
The time zone is GMT-6 in the islands and GMT-5 on the mainland.
The currency used is the USD at the islands and at Ecuador. 100 dollar bills are only accepted at the banks. Credit cards are not accepted in most places.
Banks are open from 0900 to 1700 hours, Monday to Friday. ATMs are available at the main islands of San Cristobal and Santa Cruz Island.
Connections are limited, especially on cruises. However a satellite phone is available with the staff in case of emergencies.
Tipping is a common practice and tipping can be done as per your own judgement.
Electricity is 110W, 60 cycles, AC, 2 flat prongs. It is recommended to carry a converter for all Indian electric equipment.
