Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre - It is the largest Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre in the world. The centre is a great opportunity to learn about the Rainforests and their wildlife, the highlight of course being the Orang-Utans. Orang-Utans which when translated in Malay mean the Man of the Forest. They can probably seen the closest in this natural habitat. The centre takes care of the abandoned Orang-utans and prepares them for the wild. Many other species are found in the centre, providing an opportunity to get up close and personal with them.
Sukau - Sukau is beautifully located on the lower banks of the Kinabatangan River and borders the Kinabatangan Wildlife sanctuary. The Kinabatangan river seems never ending with a length of 560kms and is rich in Borneo’s primates, mainly 10 in number that include the Proboscis Monkey, Maroon Langur and the Borneon Gibbon that are endemic to Borneo.
Gomantang Caves - The Caves are a limestone outcrop, home to the edible birds. It has in fact been awarded as the best managed edible birds’ nest cave in the world by World Wildlife Fund. These birds share their home with bats and several insects that thrive on the rich bat guano on the floor. The caves also shelter several birds and mammals. The lush green rainforest around the caves is rich in bornean flora and fauna. A walk in and around the caves is truly a unique and exhilarating experience.
Sandakan - Sandakan is the second largest city of Sabah. It is surrounded by the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation center, the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey sanctuary, Sandakan Memorial Park and also the very interesting Gomantong Caves.
